Gale Pale Ale

From The Little John Inn, Hathersage, Derbyshire

Just what is needed after a long walk in the snow and wind on the Derbyshire Dales, Gale Pale Ale doesn't disappoint. It enters the board with a BBB score of 64 placing 13th, unfortunately missing out on a place in the top 10 board but certainly worth a try!

As we mentioned before beer has been written in the history of the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamia. It possibly even dates back to early Neolithic or 9500 BC making it one of the oldest prepared beverages on Earth!

Save the economy...buy British Beer!

Help the UK recover from the recession by buying British beer. Just one of the ways the government is suggesting that we can help our economy is to buy British products and get the multiplier effect really going on our Great island! Is there any better excuse to go to the pub?

A Gill is a unit of measurement equal to a quater of a pint (142ml) and is still in use in the Isle of Man and Japan where they measure units of spirits in fifths of a Gill.
The quarter-gill was the most popular unit size in Scotland and is still in use today in Ireland. In southern England they call this a 'Noggin'.

Abbot Ale

A high entry this time with Abbot Ale scoring 80 and placing joint 2nd! Of course with that it pushes another off the top 10 position securing it's place near the top, unfortunately missing the number 1 spot by just one point! Want to change this? Just comment a score...

Isle of Man new alcohol measurements scrapped

Currently draught beer must be sold in pints, half pints or the lesser known one-third measurement.
They had planned on introducing a quater and two-third pint size after the liquor trade asked for the changes, however, the OFT (Office for Fair Trading) found that people were "unanimously opposed to the changes".

In the Isle of Man they also measure spirits in quarters of a gill, as they do in Japan, unlike the UK's 25 or 35ml size. Personally I like that they are keeping the old, traditional measurements, what do you think?

Hathersage

There's nothing like a good long walk and a stop in an old pub. And on that note, are there any beers near/in Hathersage, Derbyshire that you think deserve to be on the board?
